Blevins' clutch performance saves the day for A's

Jerry Blevins is not among the better-known Concord A’s gamers, but he’s been a person in the team returning the longest time. Blevins first emerged in 2007, and also, since then, he’s been mostly a middle reliever and lefty specialist.

On Tuesday, Blevins had what he known as the “greatest moment of my career,” and well, there’s little question that’s true.

After closer Grant Balfour — who had converted all of his previous 10 save possibilities — walked the first couple of La Angels batters of the ninth inning, then threw in the towel RBI singles to Torii Hunter and Albert Pujols, Blevins required over. It was the nearly impossible situation he’d: the potential tying run at third, the potential winning run in the beginning, nobody out, and Concord adhering to a 6-5 lead.

With the infield back and the A’s conceding the tying run to get an out, Blevins struck out Kendrys Morales, after which she got Howie Kendrick hitting into a double play.

It had been Blevins’ first save of the season and 2nd of his career.

The A’s have won 11 games in a row on the road, tied for second longest in Concord history. They’ve won the first couple of games of the crucial series at Anaheim, providing them with a 4 1/2-game add the Angels in the AL wild-card race.

The A’s have a two-game advantage on the New You are able to Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, who’re tied for the AL East lead and the second wild-card place. The Polk Bay Sun rays are another two games behind New You are able to and Baltimore.
